Crazy Crocodile Campsite – tips and information
Health
Right in the centre of the village Matema, 3 km from the campsite, is a hospital under German administration where at any time fast and professional help is available, for example in the case of suspected malaria.
The region is malaria area, appropriate clothing and insect sprays are strongly recommended. The bandas (cabins) and the bar and restaurant area on the Crazy Crocodile Campsite are mosquito-safe.
The Lake Malawi, with its non-sedgy banks and the water moved by waves, is presumed to be free of bilharziosis in most parts. Therefore, you will find the joys of bathing untarnished at the campsite.
Security
Generally, cities in Africa in the vicinity of borders require increased vigilance when travelling there. Matema is located in close proximity to the Tanzanian-Malawi border. But thanks to its remoteness, the campsite is in a region with a very good security situation.
In the village, on the beaches and in the whole area travellers can move safely. Nevertheless, we advise caution and prudence. Valuables should be left at the campsite. Furthermore, we advise against nocturnal excursions and swimming in the lake at night.
Nice to know/noteworthy information
At the campsite a vehicle mechanic for repairs is available, as well as tools and a toolshed.
